Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) is a nationalization university with international influence. It has at least 30,000 full-time undergraduates, and nearly 70% of thousands of full-time teachers having senior professional titles or doctor degree. Besides, it has a batch of national and provincial key subjects, national characteristics professionals and Jiangsu Province brand professionals. In recent years, the university has formed the core of Atmospheric Science, the key subjects of the information science and technology, environmental science and engineering and multidisciplinary coordinated development of the discipline system.

Attending major project research work of the national meteorological field is the important power of the metrological science basic research of NUIST. During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, the school teachers had overtaken 1150 various kinds of research projects, including 240 national projects ----- one major national scientific research plan, three projects of national key basic research and development program, two projects of the national science and technology support plans to issue, one item of international technical project, two key points of the national natural science funds, 132 items of youth fund project and 13 items R&D Special Fund for Public Welfare Industry, and all kinds of foreign research projects. In this period, the fund of the scientific research project is $192.9063 million, including $131.7439 million of the longitudinal research funds and $61.1624 million of the horizontal scientific research fund. Individual research project has 32 items with the fund over a million.

In the eleventh five-year plan period, the school has published 4615 academic papers-----241 SCI articles, 176 SCIE articles. In 2009, a scientific research with our school for the first sign of unit published in “Science”. In 2011, Professor Li Zhanqing as the overseas Dean of Atmospheric Physics Institute published a high-quality paper in “Nature” which has attracted the common attention from domestic and abroad.

During the past 5 years, whether the application or authorized number, our school has the tendency of increasing at a fast rate. The applications of patent are 414, including 270 applications of the invention patent. The authored numbers are 98, including 29 invention patent licenses.

NUIST has widely organized the international communications and cooperation, establishing the scientific research, personnel training relations of cooperation with many foreign universities and institutions. In 1993, the World Meteorological Organization established “the world meteorological organization regional training center” in the university. NUIST also has hosted 32 various international and domestic meetings; organized academic conferences, science and technology, and high-level lectures; hosted 8 summer schools and trained 3000 students.

The academic journal “Journal of Nanjing Institute of Meteorology” founded in September 1978 and it has become an important window to show the scientific research achievements of our school. In Jun 2009, “Journal of Nanjing Institute of Meteorology” was renamed as “Transactions of Atmospheric Sciences”. At the same time, “Journal of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (Natural Science Edition)” and “Yuejiang Academic Journal” were formally published.

By the end of the 2017, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology had eatablished 17 provincial level or above in science and engineering research institutions.

NUIST Library was established in 1960 and moved to this new building in 2010. It has a total floor area of 32,414.72 square meters.

The Library's collection is abundant and covers wide subjects. The collection of Atmospheric Science is one of the most complete libraries of the Academic Library in China. Currently, the total printed collection amounts to more than 1.74 million volumes, annual subscription to the printed Chinese and foreign periodicals amounts to 1,786 kinds. Core journals including Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science and Engineering, Information Science and Technology, Computer Science and other disciplines, have a complete collection. Besides, it also has a collection of National and regional atmospheric science and hydro-meteorological data since 1951, and altitude, ground historical weather maps since 1956.Over the past decade the library has introduced and built various types of Chinese and foreign large-scale network database 40.

The Library has 10 large reading rooms of 1,224 square meters, 11 medium-sized reading rooms of 322 square meters, two dense stacks of 300 square meters, with 4,998 shelves and 4,200 reading seats. It has three electronic reading rooms; a multimedia reading room, one reader training room, with 370 computers. Apart from the services of the query with digital resources, downloads and internet access, it also supplies students with internships, examinations, training and other functions. In addition, the library also has a 150-seat modern intelligent academic lecture hall, with analog conferencing system, audio PA system, video system, centralized control system, simultaneous interpretation system, conference recording system, broadcast system and multi-screen monitoring system. The Library is rich in modern flavor and cultural atmosphere.

We are in the service mode of the open-shelf management, collecting, borrowing and reading syncretism, lending and returning united. The library opens 7days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., providing services for 7,000 persons on a daily basis. The computer integrated management system was introduced in 2000. Apart from the regular borrowing services, the library also provides the following services: E-Resource Retrieval, Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery Service, Reference Services, Novelty Search, User Training, Audio-Visual and Multi-media Reading and Information Retrieval Courses for all kinds of users.
