NUIST Achieved another Success in National Natural Science Fund Projects in 2012

A few days ago, the result of accreditation of National Natural Science Fund Projects was announced and NUIST achieved new records in both number of projects and amount of research funds. The whole university was awarded 78 projects，which was 17 more than that of last year at the same period. Among the projects, there are 3 Key Programs with 8,710,000 RMB supporting funds，36 General Programs with 27,810,000 RMB supporting funds and 39 Young Scientists Fund Programs with 9,700,000 RMB supporting funds. With a high growth rate of 94%, the total supporting funds this year adds up to 46,220,000 RMB, which is 22,410,000 RMB more than that of 2011.

In 2012, the National Natural Science Fund Projects of NUIST covered nearly all the departments of NSFC, excluding Department of Health Sciences, with 18 disciplines involved. The project number of Department of Earth Sciences increased by 47% compared with that of last year. Department of Chemical Sciences, Department of Engineering and Materials Sciences, Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Department of Information Sciences and Department of Management Sciences all achieved a sustainable development in program application. According to statistics by Department of Project Sciences，Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences was awarded 7 projects；Department of Chemical Sciences was awarded 3 projects；Department of Life Sciences was awarded 1 project；Department of Earth Sciences was awarded 47 projects；Department of Engineering and Materials Sciences was awarded 3 projects；Department of Information Sciences was awarded 12 programs and Department of Management Sciences was awarded 5 projects.

UNIST applied for 9 Key Programs of National Natural Science Fund and was awarded 3，at a supporting rate of 33.3%，had achieved a great breakthrough in Key Programs. This was the first leapfrog growth since the achievement of Key Program in 2006 and 2010 and from now on，the total number of Key Programs of National Natural Science Fund adds up to 8 of UNIST. Furthermore, the number of General Programs grew significantly. Growing at a rate of 50%, the number of General Programs in this year is 12 more than that of the year 2011.
