Seminar on Earthquake and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Teaching in Russian Held by NUIST For the First Time

For the first time, the Seminar on Earthquake and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for Armenia is teaching in Russian . The seminar is sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce. The seminar follow two strategic conceptions of building” Silk Road Economic Belt” and ”21st Century Maritime Silk Road “, which were raised by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of China. Professor Min Jin Zhong, Vice president of NUIST, Zhao Yuhong, Deputy Director of Foreign Economic Trade Sector, Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, attended and addressed in the opening ceremony. 20 Armenian participants attended the seminar. They are from Armenian national Crisis Management Center, Armenian Emergency Rescue Services division, Aragatsotn Fire Rescuing Brigade, Ararat Rescue Bureau, Kotayk Rescue Brigade and other Departments. Professor Wang Suchun, Executive Deputy Director of WMO Regional Training Center, presided over the opening ceremony.
Firstly, Vice President Min Jin Zhong expressed warm welcome to the participants and gave a brief introduction to NUIST and WMO Regional Training Center. He said that the earthquake is one of the major natural disasters, which both China and Armenia are suffered. The governments and people of Central Asia sustain a friendly relationship in earthquake relief work. This seminar will focus on China Earthquake Prevention and Rescue System, and made preparation for a series of investigating activities. We hope that participants could inspire from the seminar, and apply what they have learnt in the work after back to their home countries.
On behalf of the Provincial Department of Commerce, Zhao Yuhong warmly welcomed all participants. She said, Foreign aid training is one of assistance that Chinese government providing for other developing countries. WMO RTC Nanjing, as a Chinese foreign aid training institution, contributed to improving ability and imparting new knowledge and technology to the meteorological, seismic, environmental sector employees from developing countries. The Chinese government hopes that through training, participants learn more about China and act as ambassador to promote economic and trade relations between China and other countries.
On behalf of participants, Mr. TSOLAKYAN ARMAN, Deputy Director of Armenian Emergency Rescue Services division, delivered a speech. He sincerely appreciated Chinese government and WMO RTC and NUIST for sponsoring this seminar. He said, the seminar built a bridge for both sides to communicate and learn. He firmly believed that the cooperation between the two countries in disaster mitigation and reduction will benefit for two countries. Natural environment protection is one of the major tasks in the 21st century. He hopes that disaster mitigation and reduction experiences they have learnt would provide a good reference for their future work, and two countries would share experience, achievements, and work together to solve problems.
In order to make the courses arrangement more reasonable, make course content more scientific and more practical , as well as conform to talents training demands in earthquake disaster mitigation and reduction of recipient countries, the officers of WMO RTC Nanjing frequently contacted Training Center of the Ministry of Commerce, Business Division of Chinese Embassy in Armenia, China Earthquake Administration Network Center, China Earthquake Emergency Rescue Center and other departments to formulate training outlines and implementation plans. The experienced professors and Russian interpreter were invited. In the future, WMO RTC Nanjing will make further efforts to sponsor hot international training projects, and spare no efforts to achieve the goal of full coverage over countries and areas, which were included in “the Belt and Road “initiative.
