Brief Introduction

   School of Computer and Software was founded in 2006. According to the 2016 Chinese University Discipline Rankings given by the Website of Chinese Alumni Association, the discipline of Computer Science and Technology of the school is a four-star Chinese high quality research discipline, and is one of the fastest growing Information school in Jiangsu Province(even in China). The school consists of five undergraduate programs: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, and Information Security. In addition, approved by the Ministry of Education of The People's Republic of China, the school is running a Chinese-foreign educational cooperation undergraduate program with the Waterford Institute of Technology. The school has the authority to award Doctoral degree in the subject of Meteorological Information Technology, and Masters Degrees in the subject of Computer Science and Technology and the subject of Software Engineering respectively. The school has approximately 100 full-time teachers, where 23 are Professors (7 PhD supervisors particularly), and over 50 world-renowned overseas part-time professors. The school has established two provincial research platforms: the Internet application innovation and open platform demonstration base approved by the Ministry of Education, and the Network monitoring engineering center approved by Jiangsu province; two research platforms approved by both central and local governments: Digital forensics and Meteorological data mining; two laboratories approved by both central and local governments: Information security laboratory, and High performance grid computing and parallel processing laboratory; and two provincial practice education center: Jiangsu software engineering and information service practice education center, and Jiangsu Internet of Things engineering practice education center.

Discipline construction

The school offers Doctoral degree programs in Meteorological Information Technology, and two Master’s degree programs in Computer Science and Technology, and Software Engineering. In 2011, the predominant discipline platform construction project “Sensor Network and Modern Meteorological Equipment” got the outstanding assessment and acceptance achievement. Approved by Jiangsu province, in 2014, the school started the second phase of the predominant discipline platform construction project “technology and equipment of Internet of Things”. Since the same year, it participated in establishing the ‘collaborative innovation center of the atmospheric environment and equipment technology of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology’.

Exchanges and cooperation

We have built relationship and cooperation with the Michigan State University of United States, jointly establishing Chinese-US Computer Science Research Center, and exchanging teachers and students to carry out in-depth international cooperation in terms of scientific research. Approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the school cooperates with the Waterford Institute of Technology to set up the ‘Chinese-foreign cooperative education (3+1) project’. This project nurtures international-level senior software engineering specialized personnel. The graduates can obtain diploma and bachelor degree certificates of both the Waterford Institute of Technology and the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology.
